1. leider nur ein laufwerk

3. auf dem betriebssystem fehlt leider die hälfte an programmen,was sonst bei windows xp dabei ist.viele formate bei video und audio werden nicht erkannt.

Also zunächst mal zur Bewertung von VPX,

wenn man keine Ahnung von einem Apple Computer mit MAC OSX hat sollte man doch eher bei Windoof bleiben!!!!

Eine Systemwiederherstellung hat Apple über die Time Machine oder Werkseinstellung über die DVD!!!!

Die Systemwiederherstellung wie bei Windows braucht Mac OSX gar nicht, läuft viel stabiler!

Keine Spiele - Also den Schrott den Microsoft mitliefert ist ja wohl nicht das was man wirklich möchte oder braucht!

Kein Notepad! - Also das Notepad ist auch nicht das was man gut nennen kann, da ist TextEdit von Apple doch deutlich besser!

Keine Start Leiste? Bei Mac OSX nicht nötig!

Wie gesagt..... wer keine Ahnung von Mac OSX hat sollte es lassen!

Was die Slim Tastatur angeht ist man klar im Vorteil wenn man lesen kann, die Imac`s gibt es sowohl mit normaler Tastatur wie auch mit der Slim Tastatur, steht alles auf der Apple Hompage!

In der Amazon Beschreibung leider nicht..... schade!

Ich finde die IMacs im Preiß- Leistungsverhältnis genial, sehen edel aus und sind auch echt flott.

Andere Hersteller solcher PCs wie HP oder Acer sind da deutlich teurer!

Ich kann die IMac`s nur empfehlen!

Der Computer ist sehr schlecht. Es sind keine Spiele drauf und die wichtigsten Programme wie Paint, Festplattenbereinigung, Defragmentierer und Notepad fehlen leider.

Außerdem gibt es keine rechte Maustaste und kein Startknopf.

Auf der Tastatur fehlt der Nummernblock! Was ist los mit Apple? Müssen die so sehr sparen? Bei Acer kriegt man alles zum halben Preis.

Ein Mac ist echt nur was für Grafiker und Leute die sehr viel ausgeben nur um einen modischen Computer zu haben.

Ich benutze schon seit einigen Jahren ein Apple MacBook, bin also kein Neueinsteiger im Kreis der Mac Begeisterten. Lieferung wie immer sensationell schnell, Freitag bestellt, Samstag stand der 24 Zoll iMac auf meinem Schreibtisch - amazongenial :)

Für mich ist es ein Riesensprung vom 13,3 Zoll auf das strahlend helle und (trotz glossy) einfach sensationelle 24 Zoll Display. Leistung satt - mehrere große, speicher- und rechenintensive Anwendungen laufen absolut problemlos nebeneinander. Trotz geöffnetem Photoshop, einer riesigen Videodatei, Dreamweaver und einer Powerpoint Präsentation startet itunes in ungefähr einer Sekunde ! WOW !

Die Verarbeitung, das Design, die Intuivität sind appletypisch. Die Migration (Übertrag) der Daten von meinem alten Rechner auf den iMac hätte sogar meine technik-un-afine Mutter geschafft, absolut genial, nie mehr Angst beim Rechnerwechsel.

Für mich ein absoluter Kauftip.

Habe seit kurzer Zeit einen Imac. Warum ich solange gezögert habe, diesen Schritt zu tun, weiß ich selbst nicht.

Verpackung ist ebenso beeindruckend, wie der Inhalt. Nur wenige Schritte zu Beginn, und alles funktioniert, ohne große Prozedur.

Die Umgewöhnung dauert an, da ich fast 15 Jahre Microsoft-PCs hatte. Aber ich tue das gerne, weil der Imac einfach genial simpel zu handhaben ist. Umgewöhnung heißt, logisch arbeiten lernen - im Gegensatz zum PC !? Was eine Freude, soviel Platz, keine PC-Plastikkiste unterm Schreibtisch > und die Tastatur: echt irre !!

Selbst wenn es etwas dauert mit der Um - und Eingewöhnung: Tu es, du wirst es nicht bereuen !

Übrigens > der Preis für solch eine Leistung ist im PC-Bereich ebenso kostspielig ! Nur nicht so aufgeräumt und zuverlässig !

Es ist nicht nur Design, es ist funktionelles Design oder Design in Aktion; das ist es, was brauchbar ist. Alles andere ist Schnickschnack . .

Für den normalen Anwender reicht die Software allemal aus. Es gibt viel zusätzliche Programme, viele davon kostenlos oder sehr kostengünstig .

Imac - meine wärmste Empfehlung !!

eine Situation, eine Entscheidung ein Kauf,... Vor einer Woche haben wir uns für dieses Produkt entschieden. Ich kann mein Glück nicht genau beschreiben, aber dieses Gerät ist ein Traum, wie aus einem anderem Computerzeitalter. Die komplette Hardware wie aus einem Guss. Alles läuft schnell, flüssig, reibungslos. Es macht so viel Spaß etwas zu entdecken und sich in die Mac Welt zu begeben. Windows ist gut aber nicht zu vergleichen mit diesem Design Traum. Alle Programme laufen super, der Wechsel?,... ohne Probleme. Ich kann alle Dokumente aus Windows Zeiten benutzen. Ansonsten ist alles wichtige vorinstalliert. Das Starten und Beenden des IMacs läuft viel schneller. Die Programme öffnen schnell und sauber.

Ich wollte noch etwas zum Preis schreiben:

+Das Display mit 24" kosten im PC bereich keine 200 Euro sondern mind. 400 Euro (Qualität)

+W-Lan N integriert (ansonsten ca. 60 Euro bei PC)

+Web Cam ca 30 Euro aber dann leider mit einer klemme am Rahmen des Monitors und nicht wunderschön integriert.

+ Design

+ Lüfter und alle inhalte sind bestimmt um ein vielfaches teurer als bei einem Aldi Rechner

+ DDR 3

+ Bluetooth integriert, im PC Bereich über einen USB Stick, dann sind alle USB Anschlüsse belegt und es gibt für den PC noch einen Hub.

+ Design

+ Laufruhe

+ Verarbeitung

+ Geschwindigkeit

+ Das Spiegeln des Displays wird überbewertet

+ Alle Programme vorinstalliert

+ Helligkeit und Ausleuchtung vom Display

+ Funktionalität und und und,....

Diese Rezension könnte einseitig rüber kommen aber ich finde keine negativen Merkmale.

- leider gibt es zu wenig Umsteiger aber es werden immer mehr!!!

Zuerst mal zu der Lieferung:

Montags bestellt, Freitags geliefert mit UPS, soweit so gut.

Sofort Karton aufgemacht und ausgepackt. Ein ziemlich großes Paket mit dem Rechner im Inneren fand ich zuerst, ein Hinweis auf dem Paket, groß und deutlich, "Es befindet sich noch ein Paket dabei, das wichtiges Zubehör für den PC ist."

Natürlich schaute ich nach und stellte fest, das in der Tat sich noch ein weiteres Paket darin befand.

Eigenschaften und Leistungen des PCs:

Da sich kein Betriebssystem darauf befand, musste ich erst ein installieren.

Danach konnte ich die Leistung des PCs besser betrachten:

- Sehr leise

- extrem schnell

- unterstützt viele Spiele

- Alle Spiele kann man auf höchsten Einstellungen spielen

- Geiles Aussehen mit dem Plastik-Deckel an der Seite

- Schöner Display und guter und praktischer Card-Reader(vielleicht etwas zu tief[in der Höhe bezogen])

Das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis ist top, meiner Ansicht nach.

Die Lieferzeit ist auch ganz ok.

Das Zubehör ist gut/so wie es in dem Artikel beschrieben stand.

"Nahezu perfekt," 2009-10-12

Als der Computer drei Tage nach der Bestellung ankam, fehlte der versprochene 3,5''Cardreader.

Wir kontaktierten CSL telefonisch und per e-mail, drei Tage später traf ein besserer Kartenleser als versprochen ein. Das Gehäuse ist gut verarbeitet, jedes einzelne Teil des Rechners läuft einwandfrei. Die Linux-Installation war kein Problem. Das BIOS zeigte zuerst an, es wäre 1792 MB RAM vorhanden. Das wären ja 256MB weniger als 2GB. CSL angerufen, Frage sofort beantwortet -> Solch ein guter Kundenservice ist heute leider nicht mehr selbstverständlich!

Daher gebe ich hiermit eine klare Kaufempfehlung ab.

Bin mehr als positiv überrascht. Habe den den Rechner am Donnerstag abend bestellt und am Samstag wurde schon geliefert. Installation des Betriesbssystems war völlig problemlos und der anschließende Internetzugang über einen USB-Stick(kabellos) ebenso. Läuft einwandfrei, nur für höherwertige Spiele ist eine bessere Grafikkarte nötig, welche aber problemlos nachrüstbar ist.

Ich / Wir sind mit dem Produkt sehr zufrieden. Es war ein Geschenk für meine Schwester und die ist total begeistert: *ein funktionierender PC und der ist auch noch schnell, juhu*. Außerdem kam er unverschämterweise 1 Tag früher als er eigentlich überhaupt frühestens verschickt werden sollte ^^. Was soviel heißt wie wir sind rundum zufrieden, Daumen hoch und weiter so bitte :).

Wir haben den PC Ende Jänner gekauft u sind äußerst zufrieden!

Der PC wurde von uns ohne Betriebssystem gekauft, das war der einzige Fehler der jedoch an UNS lag.. Da wir dann schwierigkeiten mit unserem extra gekauften Windows hatten.. lag aber NICHT am PC sondern an unsrer USB Tastatur... Das nächste Mal werde ich auf alle Fälle gleich einen PC mit Betriebssystem kaufen!

Da wir diese Schwierigkeiten mit der USB Tastatur hatten, kontaktierten wir CSL Computer.. Der Kundenservice dieser Firma ist absolut TOP.. Die Mitarbeiter waren SEHR bemüht haben uns sogar telefonisch unterstützt um unseren Pc richtig aufzusetzen!!

Der Pc ist vom Preis-Leistungsverhältnis Genial, PC s mit gleichwertiger Ausstattung kosten in renomierten Elektronikhäusern gut das 3fache!!

Wir sind absolut zufrieden mit dem Kauf dieses Gerätes und auch mit der Wahl der Firma.. CSL Computer war eine tolle Unterstützung und ich kann mit gutem Gewissen die Firma u deren Produkte weiterempfehlen!!!!

"Top Qualität und Preis- Leistungsverhältnis" 2009-07-06

Habe mir diesen PC zugelegt da mein Alter leider kaputt ging. Der PC kam also gut verpackt bei mir an. Alle beschriebenen Komponenten sind auch drin. Auch im PC war alles korrekt verkabelt. Die Inbetriebnahme ging ohne Probleme von der Hand, das einzige was länger dauerte war die Formatierung der Festplatte (habe nicht die Schnellformatierung benutzt). Nachdem dann das Betriebssystem drauf war gings dann erstmal ins Internet um neue Grafikkartentreiber runter zu laden. Die Geschwindigkeit im Gegensatz zu meinen 5 Jahre alten kaputten PC ist schon deutlich besser. Das spürt man bei allen Anwendungen sowohl beim surfen, spielen und Office Anwendungen. Auch die Lüfter arbeiten recht leise. Zudem hat er alles an Bord was man als normaler Anwender so braucht. Ein Vergleich mit einem PC Zubehörshop zeigte auch, dass man diesen PC selber nicht günstiger zusammenstellen kann. Und wie mein Vorredner schon sagte ist auch genügend Platz für Laufwerke und Festplatten im PC noch vorhanden.

Ich bin soweit zufrieden und würde es auch jedem anderen empfehlen der einen neuen PC braucht und nicht noch Software und Markenname mitbezahlen will.

Wer also neue Technik möchte und sich seine Software selber installiert der spart zum einen Geld und kommt mit diesem PC die nächsten Jahre gut aus.

Ich habe mir diesen PC gekauft, weil der Inhalt mit selber Aufrüsten, vom Preis nicht zu schlagen wäre. Mit den Quad-Prozessor ein muss für jeden Handwerker, der mehrere Anwendungen gleichzeitig laufen hat. Mit Vista Ultimate erreiche ich eine Skala von 5,9 von 5,9 möglichen Punkten. Der Prozessor ist Taktfreundlich und läuft bis 3,0 Gigaherz stabil. Wer die nächsten 4 Jahre sein PC nicht ständig nachrüsten möchte sollte sich den hier zulegen.

Wichtiger Tip: Vor Inbetriebnahme Gehäuse öffnen und kontrollieren ob alle Kabel angesteckt sind. Bei mir war der zweite Gehäuselüfter noch nicht angesteckt und das Audiokabel vom CD Laufwerk zum Motherbord.

Ein Update für die Hardware direkt vom Hersteller ist zu empfehlen um auf dem neuesten Stand zu sein. Die 750 GB Festplatte hat genügend Spielraum für Programme, ich habe Sie noch geteilt um Programme von Daten sauber zu trennen. Wer das nicht möchte kann eine 2. SATA noch mit installieren. Platz ist vorhanden.

Bei richtiger Bioseinstellung läuft das Gerät mit 3 Lüfter sehr leise, einmal im Monat staubsaugen im Gehäuse, ist allerdings schon notwendig.

Alles im allem ein Spitzen PC, dessen Preis meines Erachtens unschlagbar ist. Keine Mogelpackung sondern TOP - Leistung vom Hersteller Ankermann.

Der Asus Eee Top 1602 ist ein schicker kleiner PC. Man kann ihn einfach auf den Tisch stellen, wobei der Neigungswinkel etwas klein ausfällt. Die Stütze kann auch nicht fest ausgeklappt werden.

Eine Anbringung an der Wand ist auch ohne VESA Halterung möglich.

Der Touch funktioniert einwandfrei und ist sehr treffsicher. Die Tastatur und Maus sind stylisch und funktioniert sehr gut. In der Tastatur ist ein Stift zu Bedienung des Touch Displays. (Geht aber natürlich auch mit den Fingern)

Die Installation ist sehr einfach und innerhalb einer knappen Stunde erledigt.

Es sind ausreichend (6) USB Schnittstellen verfügbar, wobei beachtet werden muss, das die Tastatur und die Maus eine USB Schnittstelle benötigen.

Insgesamt sehr zu empfehlen.

top verarbeitung und schönes design.

schade: die sehr geringe bildschirmauflösung.

festplatte ist mit 160GB ausreichend... aaaber wie lange, wenn man ständig neue bilder dazubekommt und mp3 etc.

bald wird er allerdings als remote-pc eingesetzt seine dienste aufnehmen...

im netzwerk macht er sich bestimmt bezahlt, besonders, weil er mit einem touchscreen ausgerüstet ist.

alles in allem bin ich von eee-produkten sehr angetan (habe auch einen eeepc 1000H) und werde bei dieser meinung sicher bleiben.

Vieles wurde schon beschrieben, technische Details finden sich auch in der Artikelbeschreibung. Diese Infos möchte ich nicht unbedingt wiederholen.

Der Rechner ist sicher kein Performance-Wunder, soll es aber auch nicht sein. Dafür ist er beinahe lautlos (man muss schon das Ohr ans Gehäuse halten um die Festplatte ganz leise zu hören), benötigt nur sehr wenig Strom (40 Watt beim TV schauen, ca. 25 Watt mit ausgeschaltem Display, 2 Watt im StandBy und 1 Watt ausgeschaltet (eigene Messung mit einem dieser preiswerten Messgeräte)) und macht rein optisch einen sehr ansprechenden Eindruck.

Als Wohzimmerrechner oder Fernseherersatz macht er nicht unbedingt die allerbeste Figur. Das Display liefert ein ordentliches Bild (leicht spiegelnd, leider) aber keines, was ein "richtiger" Monitor nicht deutlich besser könnte. Die Performance reicht fürs Fernsehen und übliche Office/Internet-Tätigkeit. Bei allem darüberhinaus geht dem kleinen Eee jedoch recht schnell die Luft aus.

Für mich gibts daher nur einen Einsatzort: Die Küche. Voller Zugriff auf die MP3-Sammlung und das TV sind dabei aber nur der Anfang. Wie oft will man nicht nur einen schnellen Blick in den Terminkalender werfen, den Wetterbericht lesen, ein Bahnticket buchen oder mal eben ein Onlineüberweisung durchführen?! Dafür erst den "Großrechner" im Arbeitszimmer starten dauert meist länger als die eigentliche Aufgabe im Anschluss daran. Dieser kleine Rechner ist mit einem Klick aktiv (2 Watt im StandBy sind ein schlagendes Argument) und mit dem Touchscreen sind derartige kleine Aufgaben problemlos machbar. Die Hardware hat mich jedenfalls für diesen Bereich völlig überzeugt, man sollte eben nur nicht zu hohe Erwartungen stellen.

Was weniger überzeugt ist die Software. Asus liefert zwar Einiges mit, wirklich glücklich wird man damit aber nicht. Statt einer halbwegs einheitlichen Oberfläche gibt es haufenweise kleine Tools, jedes mit eigener Oberfläche und eigenem Bedienkonzept. Das große Touchmenü von Asus ist komplett auf die Standardinstallation ausgerichtet. Programme hinzuzufügen oder zu entfernen ist nur mit extrem umständlichem Gefrickel in der Registry möglich. Außerdem ruft das Tool häufig nur ganz normale Windows-Tools auf (Rechner, WordPad, Outlook Express, IE etc.). Diese sind allerdings für die Verwendung mit einem Touchscreen nicht gerade ideal. Hier wäre eine durchdachte, konsistente Oberfläche wünschenswerter. Das gelieferte überzeugt nicht.

In Sachen Software muss man auch bedenken, dass der Markt an Touchscreen-optmierter Windowssoftware ohnehin nicht gerade groß ist. Zur Not lässt sich aber fast alles auch mit dem mitgeliefertem Stylus bedienen. Auch wenn dabei das Potential des coolen Touchscreens größtenteils wieder verschenkt wird.

Mein Fazit:

Großartige Hardware (immer in Relation zum Preis von 400 Euro zu sehen!!), kaum bis gar nicht brauchbare Software. Als Küchenmultimediazentrale (mit Zusatzsoftware) und für Baster und Tüftler aber sehr empfehlenswert.

Außerdem weckt das Teil den Hobbyentwickler in mir. In Sachen Öberfläche lässt sich da sicher noch Einiges entwickeln :)

"Eee Top 1602 auch für andere Zwecke einsetzen....." 2009-04-11

Schon lange bin ich auf der Suche nach einer vernünftigen (damit meine ich hauptsächlich den Preis) - und jetzt kommt es - POS Hardware. Eine POS Hardware muss eigentlich nicht viel können und sie können auch alle nicht viel, das Wichtigste ist der Touchscreen, Netzwerkkarte, ein wenig Speicher und einige Standard-Anschlüsse.

Sucht man nach derartigen All in One Geräten stößt man auf Angebote zwischen €1.500 und € 3.000, kombiniert man einzeln PC und Touchscreen liegt man ebenfalls bei über € 1.000 und benötigt viel zu viel Platz.

Und dann bin ich auf diesen ASUS gestoßen! Kann und hat für den Einsatzzweck, in meinem Fall Gastronomie, viel zu viel, sieht überaus schick aus, benötigt kaum Platz und kostet eben nur dieses "wenige" Geld.

Ich habe ihn installiert und bin absolut zufrieden, auch für meine Gäste ist er ein wahrer Hingucker. Auf das Bildformat hat man sich wie beim TV bald gewöhnt.

Der einzige Nachteil ist der max. Neigungswinkel von 82,5°. Für mich gerade noch ausreichend, für andere Betriebe könnte dieser Winkel zu gering sein. Doch Hinderungsgrund kann das auch keiner sein, das Gestänge z.B. müsste recht einfach nach gebogen werden können oder man setzt eine entsprechende Halterung ein.

Für meinen Einsatzzweck ein absolut spitzenmäßiges Produkt.

Habe den Asus eee Top vor einem Monat primär für Vor-Ort-Präsentationen gekauft. Abgesehen von der etwas langsamen - aber noch ausreichenden - Geschwindigkeit des Intel Atom Prozessors hat sich das Gerät als äußerst sinnvoller Kauf erwiesen. Die Materialien und Verarbeitung sind hochwertig und das Arbeitsgeräusch sehr leise: der eingebaute Lüfter ist wie die Festplatte kaum zu hören und das externe Notebooknetzteil kommt ganz ohne Lüfter aus. Dazu kommt noch ein niedriger Energieverbrauch von <60 Watt für Monitor und Computer (eigene Messungen). Ein Highlight ist die eingebaute Touchscreen-Funktionalität. Sie macht den eee Top zusammen mit der soliden Transporthalterung für alle möglichen Aufgabenbereiche einsetzbar: Vor-Ort-Präsentationen an Messeständen, Infoterminals und Multimediacomputer für Aufenthaltsräume. Einige vermeidbare Mängel hat der eee top aber dennoch. Hier eine kurze Übersicht der wesentlichen Nachteile.

Nachteile:

- kein CD/DVD Laufwerk oder Brenner (CD/DVDs nur entweder über externes USB- oder über virtuelles Laufwerk, z.B. mit der Freeware ISODisk)

- kein eingebauter Bluetooth, keine eingebaute TV-Karte

- nur langsamer Graphikchip

- einfache Tastatur ohne separaten Ziffernblock

- das Touchscreen-Display ist nicht entspiegelt (Glare), die Spiegelungen bewegen sich aber gerade noch im tolerablen Bereich

Fazit: Würde das Gerät jederzeit wieder kaufen, da es trotz der kleinen Mängel z.Zt. ohne Konkurrenz ist. Bin jedoch gespannt auf die Nachfolgegeräte, vielleicht mit: schnellerem Prozessor, Entspiegelung, besserer Graphikkarte, größerem Monitor und richtiger Multimediaausstattung (DVD, DVB-T).

Ich kann mich meinen Vorrednern nur anschließen.

Das Gerät ist wirklich sein Geld wert. Super ist die Instand On Funktion. Bei aktivierter Funktion bootet der PC in ca. 4 Sekunden. Einige Videos dazu kann man sich unter YOUTUBE anschauen. Ich habe Windows Vista 64 bit installiert. Funktioniert tadellos! Habe den Nettop an einem Sony 40 Zoll per HDMI angeschlossen. Perfektes Bild und Klang!!!!

Ein vollständiger PC für unter 300 Euro.

Bei diesem Geschäft kann man nicht viel falsch machen.

Bei mir läuft auf dem kleinen Medien PC OpenSuse 11.1 und

die Ausgabe erfolgt auf einem full HD Monitor von LG

mit einer Auflösung von 1920 x 1080 Pixeln.

Der Grafikchip ist sehr flott für eine OnBoard Lösung,

und der Intel Atom hat sich auch zu einer Leistungsstarken

aber dennoch energieeffizienten CPU entwickelt.

"Toller PC für Normalanwender und Senioren" 2009-09-14

Wir haben dieses Gerät seit Ende Juli im Einsatz. Er ist für 2 User eingerichtet, beide zwischen 55 und 65. Für einen solchen "Senioren-PC" kam es mir darauf an, einen digitalen Ausgang anzusteuern, welcher dieses Gerät besitzt. Dort haben wir einen Asus 19" (Asus VH192C) Monitor angeschlossen und die Schriftgröße auf 125% gestellt. Nun ist er ergonomisch top für frische Rentner :)

Pluspunkte:

- digitaler Monitorausgang DVI

- völlig ausreichendes und schlankes wie auch schnelles Windows XP Home

- kompaktes Design

- schön anzuschauen

- gute Verarbeitung

- gute Dokumentation

- geringer Strombedarf

- kleines Netzteil

- gute Vorinstallation: kein Schnickschnack - und was man nicht braucht kann man einfach entfernen

Kritikpunkte:

- nicht so leise wie gedacht. Leider brummt das Gerät auf der Schreibtischplatte ein wenig und die Lüfter sind kaum hörbar und unauffällig, man nimmt den PC aber wahr.

- die mitgelieferte Tastatur ist ergonomisch eine 5-, hier rate ich eher zum günstigen Logitech Cordless Desktop 1500, welches wir auch über Amazon erworben haben.

- gilt auch für die kleine Maus

- der Powerknopf ist hinter der Abdeckung, die man ständig öffnen muss um den PC anzuschalten. Leider ist die Abdeckung nicht sonderlich stabil gebaut.

- Verpackungs-Müll: die EEE Box wird in einem aufwendig designten Karton geliefert. Zwar wurde die Verwendung von Styropor und Plastik dadurch auf ein Minimum begrenzt - jedoch ist der Karton ohne den EEE PC sicher immer noch doppelt so schwer wie das ganze Gerät mit Tastatur. :)

Alles in allem würde ich allen Anwendern diesen PC empfehlen, die viel im Internet surfen, Office benutzen und ab- und an mal Emails schreiben - und für die kein Netbook oder Notebook auf Intel Atom-Prozessor-Basis in Frage kommt (die Netbooks/Notebooks haben durch den eingebauten Bildschirm meist ein besseres Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis). Für simple Bildbearbeitung reicht das Gerät auch, nur sollten Sie es nicht für Videobearbeitung, aufwendige 3D-Grafikspiele oder Photoshop benutzen. Durch die eingebaute 2,5" Notebookfestplatte, welches hier definitiv der Flaschenhals ist, brauchen Programme gegenüber Desktop-PCs mit 3,5" Standard-Festplatten 1-2 Sekunden beim Programmstart länger. Letztendlich ist das aber ein zu vernachlässigender Punkt.

Mehr Geld muss man heutzutage nicht für einen stromsparenden Standard-PC ausgeben.

"Gelungenes Produkt" 2009-08-19

Die EeeBox ist für mich der erste Versuch eines Wohnzimmer-PCs für Internet, Internet-TV und kleine Spielchen (Arcade-Emulator).

Bisher hat das Gerät meine Erwartungen erfüllt. Klassische Internet-Videos von Youtube oder auch etwas höher aufgelöst (nicht HD!) laufen einwandfrei. Für eine abschließende Bewertung warte ich allerdings noch auf Erfahrungen mit NBA TV ab Oktober 2009.

Eine wesentliche Eigenschaft wird für viele Interessenten die Lautstärke sein. Die ist beeindruckend gering. Man hört kaum etwas. Ein Vor-Rezensent hat bemängelt, dass der Ständer auf einem Schrank Vibrationsgeräusche auslöst. Das kann ich glücklicherweise nicht bestätigen.

Es gibt kritische Anmerkungen zu den vielen Aufklebern. Das kann ich etwas nachvollziehen. Aber ich lasse sie einfach am Gerät. Irgendwann bemerkt man sie nicht mehr.

Was mich eher minimal stört, ist die recht helle blaue Betriebsleuchte. Die hätte ich mir etwas dezenter gewünscht. Das Teil zieht doch - ob man will oder nicht - die Blicke auf sich.

Sicherlich ist es auch etwas schade, dass das Produkt keine drahtlose Tastatur hat. Ich habe aber die Beschaffung einer solchen mit einem Bluetooth-Keybord von Keysonic unmittelbar eingeplant. Dann passt es auch fürs Wohnzimmer. Ca. 70-80 Euro muss man dafür wohl in Kauf nehmen.

Hinsichtlich der Drahtlos-Tastatur muss man noch berücksichtigen, dass diese im klassischen XP-Modus der EeeBox eingerichtet werden muss. Leider wird sie bei mir nicht in der beim Start nach wenigen Sekunden verfügbaren EeeBox-Oberfläche (Internet, E-Mail, Skype etc.) erkannt. Aber man darf auch nicht zu viel erwarten. Vielleicht habe ich aber auch eine entsprechende Konfiguration übersehen.

Unter dem Strich war die Investition aber ok. Meine Meinung wird sich jedoch etwas verschlechtern, wenn NBA TV Ärger macht. Ich ergänze das Ergebnis gerne später.

"Die ASUS EEE Box als Heimserver" 2009-08-19

Ich habe mir die Asus EEE Box mit dem Hintergedanken bestellt, einen Heimserver einzusetzen. Einige Eindrücke will ich hier schildern.

Wichtige Punkte für einen Heimserver:

+ Geräuschentwicklung: Man hört die Box nur, wenn man sich direkt über sie beugt.

+ Wärmeentwicklung: Die Luft wird über einen einzigen Lüfter an der Unterseite eingesogen, durch das Gerät geleitet und oben ausgestossen. Am Gehäuse lässt sich kein einziger warmer oder heisser Punkt ertasten.

+ Stabilität: Die EEE Box läuft bei mir seit rund einem Monat ohne einen einzigen Neustart oder Absturz durch Windows XP.

+ Netzwerk: 100mbit/s, ob das reicht oder 1000mbit/s benötigt werden, muss jeder vorher entscheiden. Der Durchsatz ist aber sehr gut, per Windows Dateitransfer 75mbit/s, per FTP aber volle 100mbit/s. Dazu noch WLAN...

+ Festplatte: 140gb, aufgeteilt in drei Partitionen a 40gb (Betriebssystem), eine Versteckte Backupplatte und 100gb für Daten.

+ geringer Stromverbrauch von ca. 20 Watt unter Last.

- Windows XP Home hat doch einige Limitierungen und ist für den Einsatz als Heimserver eventuell ungeeignet. Vorzuheben ist vor allem die simple Dateifreigabe die es im Gegensatz zu Windows XP Professional oder Linux nicht erlaubt, einzelne Ordner oder Drucker nur bestimmten Benutzern oder per Passwort-Anmeldung freizugeben.

- Die blauen LEDs an der Vorderseite sollen wohl "hip" sein, leuchten aber in einem Abgedunkelten Raum so stark, dass man durchaus geblendet werden kann. Also für den Einsatz im Wohnzimmer ungeeignet ausser man klebt sie ab.

Ob nun die Atom CPU und 1gb RAM sowie die 2,5 SATA Festplatte für den geplanten Servereinsatz ausreichen, muss jeder selbst wissen.

Als Dateiserver, Medienserver, Webserver, Routerersatz, Proxy, Access Point, Downloader für Bittorrent, HTTP oder auch Usenet (zb. per Sabnzbd+ ferngesteuert) ist das Gerät aber perfekt geeignet. Geräuschlos, gut gekühlt, geringe Unterhaltskosten, mein Fazit: volle fünf Punkte!

Entgegen einiger Rezensionen kann ich nur sagen:

Dieser "miniPC" gibt ein so leises Geräusch von sich, das jede Fliege störender ist.

Ich habe die EeeBox an meinen Philips 37" LCD TV angeschloßen und bin rundum zufrieden.

(Anschluß möglich über DVI-HDMI-Kabel)

1080p sind kein problem und multitasking ebensowenig.

Videos laufen ohne Probleme.

Das einzige Manko: 3D-Spiele gehen gar nicht (need for speed most wanted getested; Fazit: Diashow)

Etwas störend am gesamtpaket von Windows:

Für meinen Geschmack zu viele vorinstallierte Programme

und ACHTUNG: Kein Virenschutz dabei!

Im Lieferunfang:

Tastatur(etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig), Maus(klein aber fein), Wireless Antenne

Somit alles vorbereitet für einen einwandfreien start ins internet

ich verwende das Gerät als Server für meine Heimautomation, d.h. die Eee Box läuft 24h durchgehend. Ich kaufte es wg. der geringen Leistungsaufnahme.

Bin bis jetzt (hab das Gerät ca. 3 Wochen) sehr zufrieden damit.

"All-in one Computer zum günstigen Preis" 2009-08-18

Ich setze den Acer emachines im Büro ein; für diese Aufgaben ist er ausreichend gerüstet. Gegen den Bildschirm und die Schnittstellenauswahl lässt sich nichts negatives sagen. Allerdings ist das Gehäuse recht billig wirkend, eine ergonomische Verstellung des Bildschirmes ist fast nicht möglich ( der Computer hat keinen Standfuß, sondern steht auf den 2 verlängerten Seitenteilen und wird nach hinten durch einen Klappfuß abgesichert , wie ein Bilderrahmen). Auch fehlen dem Gehäuse die VESA- Bohrungen an der Rückwand, so daß ich ihn wohl nicht an die Wand hängen kann.

Inbetriebnahme war problemlos möglich, es liegen zwei leere(!) DVDs bei; auf diese sollte man ein Recovery des Betriebssystems brennen ( einmal mit und einmal ohne Treiber), was auch unter Programme-- emachines einfach durchzuführen ist.

Alles in allem ein - mit den o.g. Abstrichen - brauchbares Gerät, zu dem günstigen Preis nicht selbst herzustellen.

"Kompakter PC für's Internet und mehr" 2009-05-21

Ich bestellte dieses Gerät noch vor seiner Verfügbarkeit bei Amazon Ende November 2008 und musste mich bis zum 15. Januar 2009 gedulden, bis ich den kleinsten PC in Betrieb nehmen konnte, den ich jemals auf meinen Schreibtisch gestellt habe (genauer gesagt fanden die PCs sogar in der Regel nur unter dem Schreibtisch ausreichend Platz).

Nach nunmehr rund 4 Monaten kann ich ohne Einschränkungen sagen, dass ich meine Wahl zu keinem Zeitpunkt bereut habe. Die Eee Box läuft flüsterleise und ist auch mit dem bewusst von mir gewählten LINUX-Betriebssystem (unter der Haube werkelt ein Debian GNU/Linux 4.0) kinderleicht zu bedienen. Es sind alle gängigen Anwendungen für's Internet und sogar ein komplettes OpenOffice-Paket vorinstalliert, mit dem man nebenbei bemerkt problemlos auch die allgemein bekannten Dokumente aus dem Hause Microsoft verarbeiten kann.

Das Motto des platzsparenden Gesellen lautet "Easy to Learn, Work and Play" und nach diesen Kriterien unterteilt sich denn auch die auf das Wesentliche konzentrierte Arbeitsoberfläche auf die Bereiche "Internet" (u.a. mit Mozilla Firefox, Instant Messager, Skype), "Arbeiten" (Office-Anwendungen, PDF-Reader, Mozilla Thunderbird E-Mail Client, Dateimanager und sogar ein Wörterbuch Berlitz DE-ENG), "Lernen" (Schnickschnack), "Spielen" (u.a. mit einem recht gut gemachten "Musik-Manager") sowie "Einstellungen".

Die Verbindung zum Internet z.B. über einen per LAN oder WLAN angebundenen Router ist schnell hergestellt. Für mich ist der Rechner ohnehin in erster Linie als unkomplizierte Surfstation und für die Korrespondenz per E-Mail gedacht gewesen. Mit 2 GB Arbeitsspeicher (das Windows Pendant wird nur mit 1 GB ausgeliefert) ist die Performance des verbauten Intel Atom N270 Prozessors mit 1,6 GHz durchaus akzeptabel. Auch die 160 GB Festplatte ist - zumindest für meine Zwecke - großzügig dimensioniert. Inzwischen ertappe ich mich zusehens dabei, während der Ausflüge ins Netz der Netze entspannt einer der Playlists zu lauschen, die der Musik-Manager mir über die über die Frontseite des Geräts anzuschließenden Kopfhörer zum Besten gibt.

Mit ein paar Grundkenntnissen des Betriebssystems lassen sich über die einfache Bedienoberfläche hinaus per Konsole natürlich auch weitergehende Einstellungen vornehmen. So habe ich per Samba-Dienst eine bequeme Zugriffsmöglichkeit für den in unserem Haushalt parallel betriebenen Windows-PC eingerichtet und nutze umgekehrt den dort angeschlossenen Drucker auch mit dem Eee PC.

Sofern man bereits einen Monitor hat (wird nicht mitgeliefert, Anschluss über Digitaleingang oder D-SUB-Adapter) und ohne CD/DVD-Laufwerk auskommt, kann ich den kleinen Asus jedem nur ans Herz legen. Wenn man ihn am Ende eines langen Abends herunterfährt, dauert es nur einen Augenblick, bis das angenehm leise Rauschen verstummt.

Ich habe lange überlegt und mir doch eine eee Box für den Desktop zugelegt. Die Performance der Linux-Variante reicht für den Hausgebrauch voll aus, ich habe aber auf das vorinstallierte Betriebssystem verzichtet und bin auf eine angepasste Ubuntu-Version umgestiegen. Mittlerweile läuft auf der eee Box ein FTP-Server, OpenVPN, SSH, und IP-Tabels mit Firestarter als Oberfläche... und es bleiben reichlich Ressourcen für weitere Dienste übrig. Eine klare Empfehlung für Leute mit Ambitionen, der Stromverbrauch ist eh eine Wonne für den Geldbeutel. Alle Erwartungen wurden voll erfüllt!

I've had this computer for about a month now and it has so far done everything I've asked of it. The videocard can handle the newest games and HD-movies and because of the 4GB of RAM and the quad-core processor it has no problem with multi-tasking.

The only downside is that the cooling-fans make a lot of noise, so that's something that I'm gonna have to upgrade in the future, but other than that I don't think you can better value for 500 euros.

Ich habe mir WindowsXP Home (SP3) hinzugekauft und die Installation läuft völlig problemlos. Treiber für Grafikkarte lag als CD bei. Das BIOS erkennt den Prozessor nicht. Mir ist es bisher nicht gelungen, das BIOS zu aktualisieren - ich denke, dafür benötigt man zwingend eine Internet-Verbindung an dem Gerät, dessen BIOS man updaten will (CD mit entsprechender Software für's FOX-Motherboard liegt bei). Ich benutze den Rechner aber ohne Verbindung zum Internet.

Die Geräuschentwicklung ist weder als besonders laut noch als besonders leise zu bezeichnen. Die Grafikleistung ist ordentlich.

Bisher ist mir keine Möglichkeit aufgefallen, wie ich die Grafikkarte so konfigurieren könnte, dass bei wenig Last die Onboard-Karte die Arbeit verrichtet. Hängt wohl damit zusammen, dass auf der Motherboard ATI-Hardware steckt und der Grafikprozessor der Grafikkarte von Nvidia ist.

Ein Wehrmutstropfen ist der "wackelige" Kartenleser. Ich schaffe es nicht, meine SD-Karte da hineinzubekommen. Irgendwie sind die mechanischen Teile innen so verbogen, dass man sie nicht verwenden kann (Habe in Ermangelung anderer Kartentypen nur SD-Karten testen können). Der USB-Port des Kartenlesers funktioniert allerdings.

Ansonsten läuft das Teil aber problemlos.

Die Versandgeschwindigkeit entsprach den Erwartungen.

Not only does this cover secure your Kindle it looks good doing it. This is my second cover (and hopefully the last) I purchased. The first, (Amazon leather cover) was not secure at all. It kept coming loose from the hinges causing my Kindle to fall and break two months after my Kindle purchase (luckily I had the extended warranty). You won't have that problem with this amazing cover as it has a really nice added feature which is the elastic strips that fit across the outside edges of the Kindle making it more secure.

The smell noted in previous reviews lasted a few days and was not that bad. It was a leathery smell.

The cover came with installation instructions which were very easy to understand, although it took a few tries to secure it to the hindges, but please don't let that deter you from purchasing this wonderful cover.

I find the color, which is more of an eggplant, to be great.

I jus got mine about a week ago and I really love it. It had a little picture inside to show how to attach the hooks, which was really easy. I think it makes holding the Kindle a lot easier, and the interior suede feels really nice to the touch. Adds a little weight but I got used to that quite fast.

The color is a bit darker than in the pictures, I'd say kind of grayish-purple. In another review someone called the color grape, but I'd call it more plum. What ever you call it it's a nice color. I am thinking of ordering another different colored one, but am not sure wich color to get.

I have had this Kindle cover for approximately 1 month now. I agree with most of the reviewers as it is stylish, is strong-smelling at first (but if you like the smell of leather it's a good thing, ha ha), and seems quite durable.

It fits my Kindle 2 well, and it seems to be a secure hold to the unit. The only thing that is slightly disappointing is that I ALSO wanted to put a silicone cover on my kindle strictly to reduce the slipperiness of the unit and because I could change the colors on a whim. The silicone sleeves are cut with holes to accomodate hinge-holding kindle covers, but this particular cover appears to have too little clearance, so I cannot use the sleeve at the same time.

The only other inconvenience is that I don't feel comfortable folding the cover back on itself so that I'm not holding the cover like a traditional book. I suppose you could if you forced the cover, but I want to keep it in excellent shape (both appearance and functionality).

If I could have an upgrade, it would be to have an alternate method of closing the little latch; maybe velcro or magnets...?

But, with these MINOR inconveniences, I get LOTS of compliments not only on my Kindle, but on the beautiful cover, and so far, my Kindle has remained safe and scratch-free.

I picked this up to upgrade a friend's Macbook and it went off without a hitch. It was a simple procedure: get an external enclosure, plug the new 320gb drive in to it, dupe the drive via SuperDuper, and then replace the drive. The drive is super easy to replace (there are countless tutorials on Youtube). The only hard part is finding the weird hex drive screwdriver that you need to remove from the internal drive you're replacing.

Other than that - you can swap drives in about 90 minutes with the full confidence that this drive will offer more space and be faster. I'm happy with it on mine and my friend is happy that she now has a lot more space to store mp3s and movies.

I decided to upgrade my MacBook Pro laptop. Why Apple sold such as expensive computer with only a 90 GB hard disk drive is beyond me, but they did. I was a bit worried about my ability to install a replacement OEM drive and whether it would be compatible with a system that used a relatively slow clock speed and a 7200 RPM Hitachi drive initially. But I followed the recommended steps. First, I backed up my computer with an external drive using the Time Machine SW. Then I replaced the drive following one of the YouTube Video explanations (make sure you have the right tiny screwdrives and a T6 driver). The only wrinkle in doing that was getting the tape holding the connectors in place to stick again. The tape can't really be reused, so those internal connectors could detach at some point.

Once I put things back together, I turned the system on with an OS disk in the DVD drive and .... nothing. It didn't recognize the drive. But that turned out to be my ignorance. I had to use the disk utility to partition and format the drive. Then the OS recognized it. I restored my back up and that was that (almost). I did have to reload ITunes for some reason. No big deal. Now I have a top notch 17" laptop with a very capable 500 GB drive instead of a wimpy 90GB drive. The only other glitch was that my 160GB back up drive needed to be replaced. But there are good 1 TB drives out there for not much money, so no big deal.

My wife and I have the exact same unit, aside from the date purchased. My MBP is a month newer.

We both really enjoy using them, and find the size is perfect for our needs which are totally different.

My wife does mostly surfing, email, and office administrative tasks which require her to run windows through VMware for their office's Windows based accounting and payroll software. I, on the other hand, use my machine for editing 1080p video and 21megapixel photos. To compensate for the size of the screen, I connect my Macbook Pro to a 24" display.

What I find strange though is the difference in battery life, heat, and wifi reception of our machines when doing the EXACT same tasks.

My MBP lasts 3.5 hours maximum, gets quite a bit warm, and gets really good wifi reception. My wife's MBP lasts 5.5 hours, stays cool, and gets very weak wifi reception.

To be honest, I don't know whose MBP is better off, or whether both units are defective, but nonetheless, we are still quite happy with our machines!

i did not buy this from amazon. i bought from mac mall as they always have the best price on macs on the net. i had my white macbook for almost three years. i have been a pc user all my life. the macbook that i bought in 2006 was my first mac, i used to replace my pcs every year or two years at the max. since switching to the mac, i am able to keep my computers for almost three years.

i own a small business and rental properties. i used my mac to run quickbooks and some windows programs. i use sun vmbox which is free for running windows. i just got my macbook pro 13 inch. this is a real joy to use. i have already transferred all my information to this computer. the lighted key pad and the big touch pad are joy to use. i have bought a speck clear case for this mac. i like the clear case as this makes my mac more beautiful. the aluminum surface is prone to scratches. this is why i recommend a good case.

the battery life is something that i cannot comment on yet. i have not tested the battery fully yet. i am going to update my review as i find out more about this pc. so far i am very satisfied with the performance of this computer both from the looks and functional perspective.

The old saying about dictionaries being obsolete by the time they are printed is less true now, with our modern technology, but there remains another weak link in the chain that we seldom talk about when reviewing dictionaries: the user. As a professor of Spanish (Golden Age) and as a professional translator (technical and literary), I am a dictionary junkie. If a person uses a dictionary for what it is not meant to be and encounter problems, it is not from a weakness of the dictionary, but rather a misunderstanding of the user. "Don't use a screwdriver for a hammer" and then complain that it doesn't allow you to drive or remove nails well.

This dictionary is not going to give users the regional nuances of certain words. It isn't a source of information about comparative usage. This book is one I remember from when I was little. I thought and still think it is funny. Preschool and elementary students relate to Alex's experiences. We all have bad days, where even those little things add up and get on our nerves. This is a great book to use to discuss feelings and how we express them. And yes, even if we move to Australia we will still have days like that.

I absolutely positively love the negative reviews of this book. I realize there are differences in taste and experience, but people seem to miss that the book makes it okay to have a bad day. It validates, from a child's point of view, that your whole day can go horribly terribly wrong. This book is far from negative and depressing, it's uplifting!

My son and I both love this book. It's a soothing reminder that everyone has bad days from time to time. Every mom forgets something in the lunch box. Big brothers are sometimes pills. And there's that one pair of pajamas that just aren't right. This book makes all that yucky stuff OKAY, and that's a gift.

"Software is HORRIBLE" 2009-09-27

I recently purchased this for my 5 year old daughter. I thought the idea of it was great, and she loves to read. However, the software for this tool is so bad as to render it almost unusable. First, I installed the latest software from the internet, skipping the CD. As soon as it was installed, it told me I needed an update for it to work. Took 4 times before the update finally was able to install. Then I downloaded three more books of audio files from the Connect website. But I am now unable to synch the new files with the pen. I have tried repeatedly and it always fails. So, as of now I have three worthless, but pricey, books, and the only book that is on the pen is Cat in the Hat which came with it.

It is unbelievable to me that they can't get this to work. The technology for synching files between two devices has been around for what? TWENTY YEARS???? at least.

Also, the software interface is horribly slow. This is really not that complicated of a system - please, leapfrog, just spend the money to do it right. Do you really want reviews like this?

FYI: I am an IT project manager and work with technology all day everyday.

I swear, I blew $[...] on the Tag Reading System along with five or six books. I did this based on all the rave reviews here at amazon.com. This happened circa October 2008. It's now September 2009. The Tag Reading System has, over the past year, gotten very little attention from either of my children, now aged six and 4.5, approximately. It's been quite a disappointment.

The truth is, it's a great product. You upload a bunch of books onto the green-and-white pen. Then you take the pen and run it over each word in a book. The pen says each word. You then take the pen and put it on something in a picture, the pen makes a noise or one of the characters says something. Click a button and the pen will read the entire story to you. Great. Brilliant. Works well. Kudos to Leapfrog.

But neither one of my children gives a hoot about the Tag Reading System. Both of my children are bright, but all attempts to engage them with this product have failed. You cart out the stuff, nobody touches it. You try to use it with them, they would rather play something else with you.

If this product and the books that go with it were A LOT cheaper, I would wholeheartedly recommend it, but 50 big ones for the reader is a bit much to pay, particularly since the books go for 12 to 15 smackers each. I mean, if you get it and your child uses it great, but don't count on it.

Get your children a LeapFrog® Leapster® Learning Game System - Green instead. My kids use their Leapsters far more than they use the Tag Reading System. The Leapster games provide a nice mix of education and entertainment and are much more engaging than the Tag Reading System.

Overall, I love my Kindle. It is extremely convenient to keep with me all the time. Book purchases are very easy and fast, and there is a large selection to choose from. Visually, reading is easy on the Kindle, just like paper and ink.

Drawbacks? Minor. I'd like to be able to sort of fast-forward through a book by chapters instead of page by page. If there is a way to do this, I haven't discovered it yet.

Money well spent? In my opinion, absolutely. Of course, I'm one of those bookworms that have a book on them at all times, so it makes sense to purchase a Kindle. I'm a happy camper!

I was so excited about the refurbished Kindle 1, that I spent an entire day roaming through the selection of Kindle books available for download. The price was just right at $149 (refurb price), I added an additional amount to the shipping so that I could receive it the next day. From that point I spent a day at work telling my co-workers all about the item. I was exceedingly excited and could not wait to return home, as I had been watching the shipping updates and I knew it was there. When I got home I felt like a kid at at Christmas. I opened the box, eagerly, it was packaged just like a new item. Every advertised accessory was there and I was certain it was new. I followed the instructions and plugged the power in, and proceeded on my adventure, reading the introductory information included on the Kindle. Because I had been so eager the night before, I had "purchased" a free copy of Dracula. Upon learning how to download the copy into my Kindle and accomplishing the task. I spent a few minutes reading the book. Then I proceeded to the online store and downloaded a sample copy of a book I was interested in. That was when the trouble began, and never stopped. From that point on the Kindle froze, if not within seconds after having been rebooted, then a minute or so. If memory serves correctly it froze 15 times in less than 20 minutes. In one of the functional moments I was able to initiate a software update. With fingers crossed and burning hope that this would fix things, I waited for the update to complete and for the Kindle to reboot. Voila, I had a web browser now and it seemed fine, then it really crashed. I was able to remove the Sample book and then rebooted again, but this never helped either. I had been watching the Kindle for a year or so now, wishing that I could afford this item. It was all for not, and I am out of pocket on the shipping charges, they do not reimburse those charges. I can not describe the disappointment, it is my own fault for being so eager to have this in my hands, that my disappointment is so huge. I have never bought an electronic item from Amazon, fearing these very circumstances. I am not certain what to do at this point. I am not a wealthy individual, and this was a huge cut into my budget, but I had dreams of sitting with this item over coffee, and on rainy days inside. The disappointment is such that I may retract my use of Amazon from this point on. If an item had been purchased like this at a local store, I could walk right in tomorrow, refund in hand or replacement in hand. This appears as if it is going to take several weeks to correct.

I got my Kindle 2 recently and immediately wondered how to protect it. It's a beautiful piece of engineering but, like other such devices, easy to get damaged. So I searched for options in Amazon.

A number of the other options had two types of problems: either they did not hold the right side which can lead to cracks on the Kindle (as per the reviews) and/or the material smelled. This one solves both problems and it's a joy to hold.

I would have liked slightly tighter elastic on the holders on the right corners as they slip off relatively easily, but that's a very minor issue.

If you love your Kindle 2, this is a great way to protect it.

Buyer beware! This cover may seem like the perfect accessory for your Kindle 2, but it could DESTROY YOUR KINDLE! As you may already know, the hinge system on the Kindle 2 is kinda faulty--if you put too much pressure on the hinges, it starts forcing the Kindle apart and cracking it. With normal use, the latches on the M-edge GO! actually bent upwards and started to break apart my Kindle. Thank God I caught it before it did any permanent damage. I sent it back before the 30 days were up for a full refund. I'm sure there are lots of people who were satisfied with the product, but in my opinion, this cover is NOT WORTH THE RISK.

I have not received this as of yet only because Amazon has taken the potion of delaying shipment on, Free Ship Items. They have done this before with a GPS unit I purchased. As a previous reviewer wrote, this is there stance, Pay For Shipping if you want it faster. I have other options for my internet buying and will in the future exhaust those before selecting the buy button on Amazon. As for there products for the Kindle they kind of have you as the only purchase option. It is with regret however that Amazon has chosen to use such a smelly used car sales technique to punish the customer who buys from them.

I have had at least two occasions now when I have gone to use my KINDLE only to discover the battery needs charging. My husband picked this case out when he ordered my KINDLE, and having read the reviews, I am not sure I would have picked it at this point. If I could find the slip, I'd try to return it. As others have stated, the zippers "stick" or are awkward; the tiny corner elastics are pretty useless; and the inside pocket doesn't seem to actually have a purpose. I have put my recharger cord in there, but worry about doing some damage to the screen. However, like my cell phone, going somewhere without a charger can be deadly. I think the on button gets pushed when the case is zipped. Any other ideas? And last weekend I discovered that it keeps telling you your battery needs charging, but you can't "turn it off". What gives???

This zipper case is really well made and well designed. It solves the problem of carrying the Kindle around and of holding it for reading. The Kindle is difficult to hold. It has no place to grip it securely. It's slippery plastic. But the zipper case solves that with the loops for your hands. There's no slipping when reading. It opens like a book and has the feel of holding a book, which was not true without the case. I can't compare this product with the leather case, which I see is very attractive, but probably not as functional as this zipper case with it's hand holds and closing zipper. The only drawback is the high price.

This case is great for travel. It fits the Kindle perfectly and the extra pocket fits my iPod and ear buds case. I travel to and from work by airplane and this case contains everything I need during flight plus fits neatly in the airplane seat-pocket. I can also clip the reading light on and still zip it completely up because of the double zipper pulls. I highly recommend this case for your Kindle, especially if you travel a lot.

As expected from a Patagonia label, the construction and materials are well suited to house a Kindle. The zipper is sturdy and the material is durable, flexible, and wipes clean with a wet cloth. My only dissatisfaction is with a part of the interior design. On the right hand side, there are strips of elastic that run at a diagonal at each corner, supposedly to hold the Kindle in place if choosing to read without removing it from the case. It's a great idea but does not work in practice due to the thin width of the straps. Otherwise. I am glad to have spent the money for this case. When zipped up, it looks like an nondescript agenda/day planner case, not a housing for an expensive piece of equipment--a good thing to keep the casual observer uninterested! --ML

I really enjoyed this book. The concept of a child being raised by those in the graveyard was well thought out and in the context of the story seemed perfectly normal. I loved that everyone there helped raise the child even though he had "specific" parents and a guardian who could move about the human world. I thought the story started out a bit gruesome for a middle school book, but it played out well. The story spans a number of years but highlighting specific events that occur throughout the child's life. At first this kind of annoyed me, but I realized each part read more like a short story and each "story" played a role in the ending. I'd would love to see a future book about Bod's life outside the graveyard.

I actually listned to the Audio book which is read by the Author who does a fantastic job. I enjoyed it so much, I've just ordered another book written by him. Neil Gaiman is an author that I have recently discovered. I had heard of The Sandman series, seen Stardust (but how often is a movie true to the book that fathered it?) and I had watched trailers for Coraline. It wasn't until I found out he had teamed up with another favorite author of mine - Terry Pratchett - with American Gods that I really took notice. Boy have I been missing out! Gaiman's newest offering The Graveyard Book is a wonderful blend of mysteriously new and comfortably familiar images. Gaiman has deftly whipped up a concoction that feels like somehow, if you peek behind the corner, someone you really should remember will be waiting for you. Bod isn't like us but he isn't that far from us either. He has a `family' he has those who look out for him and support him, he has a hard time at school and girl troubles. He also has a horrific murderer out to get him. His journey from boy to young adult is a marvelous adventure. The idea of the danse macabre takes on a whole new meaning as does visiting a graveyard just to read the inscriptions. I would recommend this book to young adult readers and adult who enjoy fantasy, horror and mythology. A truly enjoyable read.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman tells the story of Nobody Owens, a young boy who fortuitously wanders off just as an assassin kills both his parents. The toddler is protected, and raised by the ghosts of the graveyard he waddles into.

A new twist on The Jungle Book, I found this book to be a real page turner. The story seemed a little too deep in places for what was going on, and a little open-ended, leaving me to wonder if perhaps there's some sort of sequel in the not-too-distant future, but otherwise, I have very little to complain about with this book. It's joined the prestigous ranks of "Books I Bought While Poor" meaning that I snatched it up for my personal collection despite my paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle. Oh, and it won the Hugo, so obviously at least a few other people think it's a decent book.

To be honest, I haven't read much Gaiman, which makes me (and likely you) very sad. I'll be correcting that soon, starting with Neverwhere, and moving right into American Gods and Anansi Boys. I have Good Omens on my bookshelf, so I suppose I'll get to that one at some point, too.

Final Score: 9/10. A great book for younger readers, and a great way to kill a boring afternoon for adults. Enjoyable, highly readable, and quickly read.

I am not a computer person. My brother is a computer genius and recommended this item b/c I needed more space on my computer. It arrived quickly and in brand new packaging. The instructions were so easy even I figured it out. If I can do it anyone can. Plug into wall, then into computer. It even comes with trial software for backup protection. Not to mention the hardware looks really sleek. It's also a price you can't beat. Ones with half the space go for around the same price. I will definitely purchase this brand again.

This drive comes with the "WD SmartWare" software, which CAN'T BE REMOVED from the drive. On a mac, it's a virtual volume that appears every time the drive is plugged in. I contacted WD technical support, and they say that the software can't be removed.

The drive worked great for a couple months, then I started having intermittent issues like some other people on here. I didn't send it in because I didn't want to deal with it. It finally wouldn't be recognized by any operating system and I thought it was dead. So I borrowed a friend's SATA enclosure to be sure. I ripped the case and usb->sata board off the drive and put it in the new enclosure, and eureka! I ended up buying a little ide->sata converter and slapping the drive into my tower, where it has been working flawlessly ever since. I think WD makes a great HDD, I just think that they have contracted out the other hardware and it is sub-par. Consider buying the 1TB drive as an internal and buying an external enclosure separately. Otherwise a great drive.

I love this hard drive. It is very simple to use, just plug in to the wall and to your computer and it is good to go. I have used it for backup and it works beautifully. Very fast and massive.

I have two complaints:

1. The glossy exterior is very easily scratched and fingerprinted. I scratched it within about an hour just because I laid it down on the desk and then slid it on its side. I would personally prefer a matt finish that doesn't show fingerprints as easily and stays beautiful for longer.

2. When I bought this item, it was sold to me by Target. I saw it at a Target store in my area the day after I ordered it for the same price, with a $10 gift card included. I could have saved the shipping and handling, got myself a gift card and had the thing that day if I had known. So that may be something to consider if you want to buy from Target through amazon.

I had lots of choices. I could have gone for Amazon's own sturdy protective cover, but I read that the Kindle 2 tends to rattle around inside. The Patagonia case also looked like a winner, but it was more money and I didn't need the carrying strap or the inside pocket. I chose the Belkin Neoprene (which is a flexible and sturdy, plastic type material). It fits the Kindle 2 perfectly and it feels like a small, light-weight notebook. I love it. I gave it four instead of five stars only because, for me, perfection is hard to come by.

I love the e-Luminator 2 Booklight for my Kindle. The maker of this light were so clever to come up with a design to work so well with the cover for my Kindle. Now everything I need to read anywhere anytime is with me whenever I need it. I am so happy with this product. It is very well made, has a very bright light, and does not clip onto the Kindle. All clip on lights just move around to much and eventually fall off. There is a pocket on the cover that I bought that the light base slides into and is always kept in your cover with the Kindle. It is all so compact and handy. Great product!

Everything is great, except when I try and close my cover. I have the kind that folds over from the side, and it just won't close easily. If I try to force it, a section of the right side of my kindle is showing. Does anyone have any sugestions? Does another cover work better? I have the M Edge Go Cover, the exact cover that is in the picture of the light's description. I really hoped that it would fit inside my cover. I won't be carrying it in my bag with the light in place.

I ordered this light and the M-Edge Prodigy jacket specifically because they worked together. Both work as advertised and I'm happy with the purchases.

Both were a little more expensive than other options on Amazon, but because they were made to work together and because the light was not a clip-on afterthought-looking product like you'd buy in an airport concourse electronics store, it seemed worth it. And, I'm happy with both. A couple of thoughts now that I've been using the light for a few weeks...

~ I bought the light for use on flights, but it's been great at home. Now the wife can sleep while I read as I don't need to turn a bed lamp on any longer. We're both happier as she gets more sleep and I can start reading in bed again.

~ Like other reviewers, I too can see no substantive difference between the two brightness settings. Not sure the point of this feature.

~ I've not had a problem with the light turning or staying on and the battery running down, but then as mentioned above, I purchased the jacket made to work specifically with this light, which protects the light and the on/off switch from external bumping.

~ It's hard to see from the pictures and description but the light swivels at its base, which allows the flexible neck to run vertically from the top of the "book" or run down the spine and remain within the cover. For the first week of use at night, I would dutifully open the cover fully, spin the light around at the base and run the neck up so it was above the Kindle by a few inches. However, I soon discovered that I could leave the neck running down the spine of the Kindle, moving the head and neck to such a spot that the screen was well illuminated. This, 1) cut out a set-up and take-down step, and 2) helped cover some of the brightness of the light from my wife (who sleeps to my left) with the left flap of the Prodigy cover.

~ Seems easy on the power as I'm still on my first AAA rechargeable battery, though I use it almost every night.

All in all, I'm happy with the product and would recommend it with the cover that's made to work with it.

For those in the market for both, here's the review I just left for the M-Edge Prodigy Kindle 2 cover that I just left for that purchase...

[I received the Kindle 2 as a gift a month ago and was looking forward to ordering a nice cover for it. After looking at the many options on Amazon I chose this jacket and am happy with it. Good quality, well-made and easily serves the purpose.

I ended up deciding on this, a little more expensive version of an M-Edge jacket, out of many choices as it was made to accommodate the M-Edge e-Luminator book light, which seemed like the best lighting option over the other clip-on model (of the two on the site which I could find), which didn't receive as many good reviews. As a combo set (cover and light) I'm happy with both.

However, after much deliberation of which color would look best with my Kindle, I chose this lighter brown version, based upon the photos on Amazon, thinking that it looked like a nice calf-skin leather color, like a journal or a nicely-worn piece of hand luggage. However, the actual color is more of a dull, tannish-grayish-light brown and not what I was expecting (think dried puppy barf, not a rich calf skin tan). It's still a good quality cover and works well, just not the color I was hoping for.

Also (not a product quality issue), I ordered the cover with free super saver shipping understanding that it would arrive by a certain date, in time for a planned trip. After the order, it took several days to actually ship and the stated delivery date changed and showed to a later date. So, I ordered the exact same cover again, but with 2-day shipping, paying for it this time so that I'd be sure to have it in time. But, both end up arriving on the same day. I returned one as planned, paying the return shipping costs, not a big deal (~$5 x 2 there and back), but pretty irritated that the delivery date estimate for the original order was so far off that I was forced to order the second version just to be sure I'd get it in time and then have it turn out as a unnecessary step and expense.]

Great compliment to the M-Edge cover; the best part is leaving it attached to the cover where it is always available. Compact, well-constructed and well-designed, uses a single battery (I use it with rechargeables so the battery cost is minimal); the switch seems relatively flimsy in use, but so far no issues; as others have said, the 2-way brightness feature is (to my eyes) almost undetectable for any difference. The only downside is that it doesn't fully cover the screen with the light unless you place it relatively far away, and it delivers (I would estimate) less than half the light of the Mighty Bright if you're used to that. Sufficient to read in a dark room, but for those with less than good vision it might be a problem compared to brighter lights, which is why it doesn't rate a perfect "5". My advice for Mark 3: increase the brightness (maybe add a battery in series?), lose the 2-way switch and just use a push off/on switch.

I love that it slips right in, there is no bulk. The light itself is very bright and I like it better that the other kindle lights, BUT...it doesn't work!! I can never get it to come on without shaking it or hitting it with my finger, I changed the battery thinking that was it, but I still have problems with it working!! It's as though there is a short in it somewhere. Once it finally comes on, it is awesome!! I think it would be worth a try to send it back and try again though.

"Handy -- Excellent Use of $20!" 2009-09-29

I have to say I use this light for many other purposes besides reading my Kindle at night! I carry it in my purse for use in finding my keys, because its shape makes it very easy to find. When walking the dog in the dark, all I have to do is clip the light onto my pocket or waistband and it generally lights my path beautifully, although my daughter told me she thought I looked silly (so much for vanity). When we need to find something in the car, instead of turning on the overhead lamp and distracting the driver, this bright little light works wonders. I could go on and on, but you probably get the idea.

Also, I use rechargeable AAA batteries (charging them during the day), so I can't really tell much about a waste in battery power, but I think the battery life is about the same as an xbox 360 controller.

I've been using this book light for about 10 months now. Overall, I'm very pleased. Note that I use it with normal books, not with the Kindle.

First, it uses standard AAA batteries. Other lights I've used take "watch" batteries, which are expensive and often hard to find. After 10 months, I have yet to replace the batteries. Clearly, they last a long time. Now, I'm not saying that I use the thing constantly. I actually haven't used it that much lately as I've been doing more computer reading. I was using it for about an hour a night, each night, for a few months in a row, and never had to change the batteries.

I've found the amount of light it puts out to be more than enough. The light has two light settings. You can either have both LEDs shining, or just one. I have almost never used both LEDs. I find the light given off by one LED to be sufficient. Using only one LED helps with the battery life, as well. I haven't had any problems with the switch system. The button switch works fine for me.

I do have a couple complaints. The clip is pretty big. It can add a bit of a bulge to the back of your book, once clipped on. It is lightweight, though, so I don't really notice the additional weight.

The bigger complaint I have is with the adjustable arm. After 10 months of use the arm has gotten pretty weak. It no longer holds in place like it used to. Its not like I am constantly adjusting the arm, either. For the most part, I leave it in one position, just moving the unit from book to book. I do have to tweak the angle, height, etc. with each new book, so maybe that has been enough to wear out the tension in the arm. I also tend to pull the light up as high as it will go, so that I can get the largest amount of light coverage. Maybe that has contributed to the weakening of the arm, as well. The light still works fine, but it has a tendency to "sag."

Despite the arm-tension issue, I would buy another Mighty Bright XtraFlex2. I am actually considering another one, as I write this. I've tried many book lights over the years, and this one is my favorite.

This is a good reading light, its very bright and small but I thought it was made specifically for the Kindle and its not. It doesn't fit to clip onto the kindle but I have found a way to prop it so it shines on my kindle while I read in bed. So if you're expecting it to clip onto your kindle it doesn't.

As the happy owner of the K1 (1st generation Kindle) I needed to buy a light so that I could read in bed without disturbing my husband. This light clips to the exterior of my case very easily and is fully adjustable so that I can target the light exactly where I need it. It has 2 settings, low and lower. I wish there was a little bit brighter setting and that the light itself wasn't so "blue". Otherwise, it has served its purpose very well and is still going strong after a year.

Cooking Lobster

Lobsters are one of the most delicious foods and are considered as a luxury by some. They are healthy and low in fat. Unfortunately, they taste better when cooked alive and thus cooking lobsters, for some people, can really be a difficult task what with boiling or cutting them when still alive. However, certain specific cooking methods need to be followed to speed up the killing process.
For boiling lobsters, a large pot full of rolling boiling water needs to be added with salt and lemon juice. For a 12 to 14 quarter pot, the water level needs to be at least 6 inches high. Once the water is at full boil, the lobster has to be dropped head first inside the pot. In case of trying the reverse, the lobster might crawl back out of the pot. For a lobster weighing 1 lb, the ideal cooking time would be 12 minutes whereas for a 1.5 lb lobster the time would be 15-18 minutes. A 2 lb lobster needs about 22 minutes for proper cooking. The boiled lobsters can be removed from the water once the shells are bright red and then can be served with melted butter. Lobsters get overcooked very quickly and to avoid this, they need to be taken out as soon as the time is up and placed on grocery bags or paper towels for draining.
For steaming lobsters, they need to be placed inside the pot, along with something with holes at the bottom of the pot, so that the lobsters are never able to sit in the water. A 10-quarter pot might need an inch of water added with salt. While lobsters under 2 lbs require 10-12 minutes of cooking, 15-20 minutes would be needed for those over 2 lbs.
Live lobsters may not be ideal for broiling. Individuals can kill them by stabbing them through the ?T? mark on their head, appearing right behind the eyes. A sharp knife is essential to cut through the center of the shell followed by cracking the shell and prying the sucker open by hands. Claws can also be cracked but not removed. For broiling, the lobsters are brushed with melted butter and placed on a preheated pan or broiler with the shell side down until they are heated through.

2. Make sure that you have all of the ingredients
This may sound obvious, but it is very annoying when you are all ready to go and then you realise that you have left something off from your shopping list. One way of making sure that you don?t forget anything important is to get the recipe items a few days before the meal and then check the ingredients the day before so if you have forgotten something, you will have enough time to get down the supermarket and get it.
3. Listen to music while you are cooking
If you really don?t like cooking then you can always have something on in the background to take your mind off of it. One of the best things to do this is music, so put on your favourite CD or radio station and you will find you can make the recipe on auto-pilot.
4. Make sure you have clean cooking utensils
It can be very annoying if you are all ready to create your masterpiece and then you find you have dirty pots and pans. Give yourself an extra hour or so to make sure that you have everything clean and ready for the task ahead.
5. Get help, if you can
Preparing the vegetables, chopping the meat and mixing the ingredients can be done by most people so try and offload this on to one of the end recipients of the meal, they should have to work to earn it after all! A bit of teamwork can always help making the stress of cooking a lot more enjoyable.
